If you are looking for something that will remind you that Shanghai actually is a chinese city (and not another version of New York), then you should take a trip to Yuyuan Garden. It’s a small, extensive chinese garden located not far away from the Bund, in the north- east of the Old City of Shanghai.

Built in the Ming Dynasty, Yuyuan is equipped with halls, gardens, pavillions, ponds and towers. It has suffered damage many times over the years, but after being repared it was opened to the public in 1961 and is now a popular tourist destination, and has also been declared a national monument.
